Bridgeways Dental Renovation

When George and I first walked into Bridgeways Dental, we saw that it had a lot of potential to become the practice that we had dreamed of creating: a small, modern, bespoke practice which had a warm and welcoming feel. So many people are anxious about going to see a dentist we knew it was important to make the environment as homely and comforting as possible, whilst still retaining a professional and clean, clinical environment. Some of you may remember Bridgeways Dental as it had been for many years, complete with orange wallpaper, brown carpets, old fashioned wooden waiting room chairs and a dated fish tank, so we certainly had our work cut out to make it how we had imagined. Have a look at the pictures below to see the work in progress!

George, being a man, decided that it was my job to put the “woman’s touch” on the waiting areas, and I have to admit that renovating and decorating is something that I had little experience in. After many hours spent trawling through Pinterest and Instagram as well as interior design magazines, I had a good idea of what I wanted. The renovation process took around two months in total, these things always take much longer than you first plan for as there are always problems lurking behind the walls which need attention before you can move on, but I have to say that I am delighted with the result. Most of the work was carried out by our builder Gary and his team. The walls and ceilings were stripped and re-plastered, new LED spotlights were fitted to give a more modern touch of lighting, and a new air conditioning unit was fitted. You will be pleased to know that the fish were rehomed and one of our patients, who is an aquatic enthusiast, took the fish tank for us.

We fitted wood-effect safety flooring, which is perfect for a clinical environment as it is easily cleaned, hardwearing, and non-slip, even when wet. The walls were painted with Farrow and Ball emulsion (“Skimming Stone” for the waiting room and “Cornforth White” in the hallway, if anyone is keen to know!), and a feature wall behind reception was painted in our Bridgeways Dental branding dark grey. The patient restroom had a new unit and super shiny tap, and lovely marble flooring to complement our contemporary luxury feel.

New armchairs and a coffee machine were installed, along with our lovely sideboard, tables, and some copper finishing touches, including the fabulous copper fire extinguishers.

Here are a few words from Kevin James, who took the fabulous photographs:

“One of the great things about being a patient at Bridgeways is that Casey and her staff take an interest in you as a person. A little time is always spent in conversation and that helps you to relax. Of course, this is a two-way exercise and Casey is happy to tell you about her plans for the practice, which is how we got into a conversation about redecorating the waiting room and the need for some art work.

We had already talked about my interest in photography and so I offered to provide some images for the waiting room walls. The three photographs you see during your visit to Bridgeways were chosen by Casey from a range of images taken mainly in southwest England and we both hope that they enhance your visits to Bridgeways.”
